“I didn’t know what to say when I first listened to this album. I’m not quite sure what I expected from it, but I am now thouroughly happy that I purchased this CD. Christina has successfully evolved from a catapillar with virtually no visible talent to a beautiful butterfly with an astounding voice and writing ability.Every track on “Stripped” is worth a listen and there are absolutely no fillers on this album. Here is my track-by-track review of Christina Aguilera’s “Stripped”.

1. STRIPPED INTRO – This is a lovely introduction to a great album. Here, Christina warns us that this is the REAL her. A great cut. ***91/100***

2. CAN’T HOLD US DOWN – In this song about women empowerment, Christina confronts the double-standards that women face today. A great message. Lil’ Kim’s rap in this upbeat track complete the song. ***90/100***

3. WALK AWAY – This is my favorite on the album. The haunting music and Christina’s stunning voice mesh together beautifully to create a sad, and chilling song. You can definetely feel Christina’s pain i this one. ***100/100***

4. FIGHTER – This is the third single from “Stripped”. With Dave Navarro on guitar, and Christina’s brilliant lyrics and powerhouse voice, this is a rocking tune with a powerful message: Be Strong. ***97/100***

5. PRIMER AMOR INTERLUDE – A nice 51-second interlude with Christina talking in spanish to an acoustic guitar melody. ***87/100***

6. INFATUATION – A latin song that sounds a little bit like Christina’s 1999 debut; only much, much better. ***88/100***

7. LOVES EMBRACE INTERLUDE – This is a prelude to track 8 and is beautifully done. I think that she should have included this with track 8. But, nevertheless, its nicely done. ***94/100***

8. LOVING ME 4 ME – A very slow-tempo song with calm, soothing vocals that sound almost virginal (ha! we all know that’s a lie! lol!). This is another favorite. ***99/100***

9. IMPOSSIBLE – A nice jazzy track with great lyrics and great music. You can’t go wrong with Christina on the mic and Alicia Keys in the producer’s chair. ***95/100***

10. UNDERAPPRECIATED – A flawless R&B song with a grooving bassline. Christina belts out nicely in this one. Another favorite of mine. ***97/100***

11. BEAUTIFUL – The second single released from “Stripped”, this is another faovrite. Inspirational in so many ways, this song makes me feel great. Whenever you’re feeling low, listen to this and within the 3 minutes 58 seconds of the song, you’ll be smiling. The lyrics are meaningful and just down-right beautiful. ***98/100***

12. MAKE OVER – No, this song isn’t a song about giving makeovers. This is an English-hard rock sounding song with lots of screaming and the word “bulls**t” is thrown around a lot. You get a lot of energy coming from this one. ***92/100***

13. CRUZ – A beautiful ballad about leaving everything behind and just driving down the highway toward a new life. Beautifully done. ***86/100***

14. SOAR – Another excellent inspirational song. The song’s message is simple: Be Yourself. ***98/100***

15. GET MINE, GET YOURS – Well, well, well. This song is interesting. The song’s subject is casual sex. Even though, some might call Chrisitna trashy for doing a song like this, I think it’s a nice step forward. Almost all of Americans have casual sex, so why shouldn’t Christina express something that we all do through song? This song just makes you feel sexy. With the sensual lyrics and the cool music, this is a favorite. ***97/100***

16. DIRRTY – The first single from “Stripped”, this is my 2nd favorite, aside from “Walk Away”. Even though this video (quite raunchy; I like!) was an instant hit on MTV, the song absolutely flopped on radio. It peaked at No. 48 in the US. But it spent three weeks at No. 1 in the UK. Nevertheless, I love this song. Can anyone say “PARTY ANTHEM!”? I dance wildly to this one in my room. ***100/100***

17. STRIPPED PT.2 – A continuation from the introduction (track 1). In this one, Christina informs us that she’s not a virgin, nor a slut. Good for you, Christina! ***96/100***

18. THE VOICE WITHIN – This one gives me chills. A somewhat sad song about…well, I’m not quite sure what it’s about! But, you can tell that this song means a lot to Christina. ***93/100***

19. I’M OK – This is a scary, thruthfull, chilling song about Christina’s abusive childhood. She confronts her father about his abusing her mother. You can hear Chrisitna cry in this song. I shed a couple of tears after my first listen of this song. ***98/100***

20. KEEP ON SINGING MY SONG – A great way to close an astounding album. A great message to all of her fans that says: No matter what, I will “Keep on singing my song.” Christina belts out a really long beautiful note in this one and her vocals are just amazing. ***99/100***

All in all, Christina Aguilera’s “Stripped” is a 5-star album that shows the ups and downs of her life. I am looking very forward to Christina’s next project. You go get ‘em, woman!

“Its usually not a good sign when an artist delivers a two-disc record. Christina Aguilera’s new record Back to Basics shows an adventurous ambition to produce two albums with different sounds but a common thematic arc. Though both discs have some excellent tracks, this could have been one amazing album instead of just two solid ones with some judicious editing. What you will find though, is great samples, huge hooks, and a fresh sound incorporating both old and new into a cohesive whole.

Disc One, produced by the impressive DJ Premier, is laden with great samples and entangling hooks. “Intro(Back to Basics)” is a funk filled preamble paying homage to “the soulsingers…jazzmakers and groundbreakers…who paved the way.” Christina wastes no time in showing her vocal range on the piano and gospel choir driven track “Makes Me Wanna Pray.” The excellent “Back in the Day” has a great retro sound and namechecks Coltrane and the “originators and innovators who…remain my inspiration every day.” The trumpets bust out on the energetic, rhythmic “Ain’t No Other Man,” while “Slow Down Baby” is a sultry brush-off of a potential suitor, “You never gonna get it from me, because I’m with someone.” “Oh Mother” is the most modern song on Disc One, lacing an elegant, emotional vocal on the abuse she and her mother suffered over a simple drum track. “Still Dirrty” is a mash of great samples with Christina’s assurance that under the Jean Harlow glam she is still a freak. “Thank You(Dedication to Fans)” is a ode to the audience that, while very sweet, is an unnecessary addition.

Disc Two has a very different sound thanks to the tonal discord of the intro track, “Enter the Circus.” The synth-heavy “Welcome” is a dark track that doesn’t quite mesh with its upbeat lyrics. “Candyman” jumps with life from its opening bars, with a fun swing sound and layered harmonies. Sounding as if they came straight off a 40-year old vinyl disc, the delightfully risque “Nasty Naughty Boy,” which takes sexual innuendo to a new level, and the soft and seductive “I Got Trouble” make for a great pairing. “Hurt” is a typical Christina ballad, and a likely huge hit, but one whose tone and sound are out of place on this record. The passionate “Mercy on Me” is a great stand alone track that sounds more 60s than jazz, and the sparse acoustic guitar of “Save Me From Myself” is a nice change of pace, but the keyboard-dominated “The Right Man” closes with a bit of a whimper rather than a bang. Linda Perry has co-written and produced some amazing tracks in her career, but that success leads her to veer wildly from sound to sound in search of a big single. Perry’s ADD method of producing delivers three great tracks, but it’s extremely ironic that DJ Premier’s disc has an overall more cohesive sound with more commercial potential than Perry’s.

This is a lot of music to absorb, and despite some tracks better suited to earlier albums or the recycle bin, this is one impressive collection of songs. Aguilera has an ability to reinvent herself from disc to disc, maintaining a freshness few artists have been able to retain. Her voice is as dominating as always, but she is smart enough to tone it down where necessary. Some track editing could have been used here, but there is more than enough to entertain, and fans will be able to mix and match their favorites into one amazing album. Recommended.” ~ By A. G. “Don’t write Ms. Aguilera off as the next Britney Spears. Unlike Britney’s babyish and mechanical voice, Christina sounds soulful and powerful. (NOTE: Someone said that Christina herself was the only one making the Mariah/Whitney comparisions…not true. Christina has said that both singers are influences, but SonicNet, MTV, and many others have compared her voice to them.) Here’s my little review:

1. GENIE IN A BOTTLE: A cool dance track. It sounds MUCH better on stereo than on the radio, though. It doesn’t showcase her singing as much as the other songs, but is still a good song, though nowhere near the best on the album.

2. WHAT A GIRL WANTS: This one’s got more of an R&B feel, which is cool. I also love the meaning of this one. Plus, the remix is really cool, and should be another hit once it comes out.

3. I TURN TO YOU: Oh. My. Gawd. How can you listen to this, then call her a one-hit wonder? That part at the end where she holds that long note…incredible. I’d like to see Britney TRY to do that.

4. SO EMOTIONAL: This is one of my favorites. It’s got this cool bluesy feel but is danceable. I also love the lyric “It’s either black or white, that’s right. We’re making love while we’re in a fight.” That basically sums up life.

5. COME ON OVER: Another great one. It’s fun to dance to, but she sounds great even on fast songs. Her voice just has so much substance, so much soul.

6. REFLECTION: Christina scores another wonderful ballad. This one’s got a great message that I really can relate to, and Ms. Aguilera’s voice adds so much more to it. Very powerful, very wonderful. As far as ballads go, only “I Turn To You” (by Christina), “I Wanna Love You Forever” by Jessica Simpson, and “Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely” by BSB can possibly compete with this one.

7. LOVE FOR ALL SEASONS: A fun, dancable song. And her voice sounds great. As always. I especially like “I feel like a little girl who wants to know can you come out and play”

8. SOMEBODY’S SOMEBODY: Very cool. It’s got that R&B feel to it, but still has that special something that makes Christina Aguilera’s music differant than everyone elses’s. It’s the perfect song to listen to when you want a girlfriend or boyfriend.

9. WHEN YOU PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME: Yet another hit! Is there anything this girl cannot do? She goes really high on this one, which I doubt that other female pop singer can do…I won’t mention any names.

10. BLESSED: A sweet song. Uh, that’s all I can say about it.

11. LOVE WILL FIND A WAY: Another great dance song you can just groove, too, but is still enjoyable when you feel like chilling.

12. OBVIOUS: A beautiful ballad, though not her best, it still is one of the best I’ve heard. She ends a FANTASTIC album with three words: Isn’t it obvious? Isn’t it obvious that she’s headed somewhere?” ~ By A fan (1999)
